Notes: ASU 4-0 in last decade against NAU

ASU improved to 20-14-4 all-time against NAU. Four of those games -- 2003, 2006 and 2008, all ASU wins -- have taken place in the last decade. Prior to that, the team's last meeting occurred in 1950. Here are some additional notes from the game.

  • Former ASU quarterback Chasen Stangel, now playing for NAU, was involved in one of the more interesting plays of the game. In at quarterback during the first quarter, Stangel handed the ball of to Austin Shanks and then floated to the flat, where he caught a pass from Shanks and scooted up the sideline for 34 yards.

  • Senior wide receiver Kerry Taylor tied a career high set at Oregon State on Nov. 1, 2008 with six catches for 72 yards and earned his first touchdown reception since the 2008 season. He now has five career touchdowns.

  • ASU punter Trevor Hankins averaged 53 yards on four punts.

  • Junior receiver T.J. Simpson had three catches for 79 yards Saturday. Prior to that he'd caught seven balls for 106 yards in his first two seasons.

  • Just one senior started on offense and two on defense for the Sun Devils.

  • Sophomore cornerback Deveron Carr had his first career interception, which was ASU's fourth of the season.

  • Junior quarterback Steven Threet's previous career bests were 18 of 35 for 250 yards in a 45-20 loss to Illinois while playing for Michigan on Oct. 4 2008. He obliterated those numbers by going 33 of 49 for 391 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions Saturday.

  • ASU had just 56 rushing hards on 29 attempts for a paltry 1.9 yards-per-carry.

  • The Sun Devils were penalized 13 times for 131 yards in the game, including three times for 40 yards on the Lumberjacks final scoring drive of the game.

  • On the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorism attacks on New York and Washington D.C., Tempe Fire Department member Rich Woreth, who spent 10 days at Ground Zero following the attacks helping victims families with financial assistant, housing and funeral arrangements. Woreth is an NAU graduate.
