Gulley eyeing three for officials
Akron (Ohio) Garfield running back Tyson Gulley has picked up plenty of offers over the past few months, making his decision that much harder than it appeared it might be last year.
The 5-foot-9, 175-pound back from the Buckeye State isn't too worried about the recruiting process right now. That seems to be a common theme for many recruits, who are opting to spend these days with their teammates in preparation for their final seasons of high school football.
"I'm just focusing on getting my season started," Gulley explained. "We've got a lot of work to do so I'm staying focused on that. I feel like we're strong in certain areas but there are some areas we're still weak in. We just need more practice and more reps on some things. I feel like we can do better.
"I think I've improved in all kinds of ways. I've started to learn how to read defenses better. I'm getting smarter with the ball and it's becoming second nature. When I'm looking at everything before the play starts I know what's supposed to happen. It makes it easier when I get the ball."
Gulley would have actually liked to have been talking to college coaches recently, but an unfortunate circumstance prevented him from doing that.
"My phone actually just got turned back on this morning. I have been talking to a couple (of schools) on e-mail, but not really on the phone."
Gulley holds offers from Kansas, Syracuse, Akron, Ball State, Kent State, Ohio and Toledo.
He already has a pretty good idea of which schools he wants to take officials to.
"I know I want to take three at least," he said. "I'll probably go to Syracuse, Central Michigan and probably Kansas. That's the only three I know of for right now."
