Texas DE picks up Missouri offer
Donovan Vestal's mom wasn't the only one to receive a nice surprise on Mother's Day.
On Sunday, May 10, the 6-5, 240-lb defensive end out of Arlington, Tex., picked up an offer from Missouri. The Tigers join an impressive list for Vestal, which includes Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska and Oklahoma State. He has nine offers total.
"The offer came as a surprise," Vestal told PowerMizzou.com. "I was just getting camp letters from them, so I thought I was only on their mailing list. It came as a real surprise.
Vestal's size and speed make him one of the top defensive linemen in Texas this year.
"I can play strong end or weak end," Vestal said. "I can rush the passer, and switch sides easily. I'm a guy that's stopping the ball at the line. I'm always there, always everywhere on the field. No one lets up on the field because I'm going to be there, chasing you down."
Vestal was hesitant to name favorites when he spoke to PowerMizzou.com, but mentioned a top four of Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma State to HuskersIllustrated.com last week. He did set down some specific criteria that will help him make his final decision.
"I really want to play," he explained. "I don't want to ride the bench and get redshirted. I want to play. I want to make sure I find a school where, if I get hurt, they can still offer me a good education and help me excel at life."
Missouri already has a connection to Vestal - he's been close friends with current Tiger Kip Edwards since the two were little. Vestal said he'll visit Columbia this summer, and will start to trim his list around July.
