Tarheel DT offered by USC
Matthews (NC) Weddington three-star DT Darius Kilgo has picked up a verbal offer from the South Carolina Gamecocks. USC is the second SEC team to step in with a tender to the 300-plus pounder.
"I got an offer from South Carolina today," the big man told GamecockCentral.com.
Kilgo's other SEC offer is from the Tennessee Vols, but other programs have also stepped up for the trenchman.
"ECU, Maryland, and Minnesota have also offered me," he said.
Coach Jay Graham was impressed with the 6-foot-4, 311-pounder on film.
"They were watching my film and were impressed," Kilgo said of the USC coaching staff. "They want me to come to their camp, do some drills, and meet the defensive line coach."
Kilgo likes the idea of playing in Columbia.
"It's a big SEC school and it's close to home," he said. "Steve Spurrier is a great coach and would be great to play for. Coach Graham is also a great guy."
Along with a summer trip to the Gamecocks' camp, the talented defender plans some more visits.
"I also want to visit UNC, Duke, NC State, and maybe Tennessee and Maryland."
Kilgo said that he does not have a leader at this time but he does have a top group.
"South Carolina, ECU, and Tennessee are my top three," he said.
When will Kilgo make his decision?
"I don't want to rush and commit," he said. "I will make my decision whenever I feel I've made the right choice."
