Ohio prospect high on SU

Akron (OH) Garfield running back Tyson Gulley ran for over 1,300 yards as a junior at a clip of eight yards per carry. Many schools near the Ohio product have offered, but two that are not so close have offered as well. Those programs are Kansas and Syracuse.

Gulley, 5-foot-9, 175 pounds spoke with about his new offer from Syracuse.

"Syracuse offered me last month," Gulley stated. "I was very surprised because I got nothing from them before and the first mail I received from them was my offer letter. I was very surprised."

The offer came with no warning, but now after receiving his Syracuse scholarship papers he has met with a member of the new Orange staff.

"I talk with Stan Drayton the running backs coach. He was straight up with me and he told me that I was dynamic and everything he saw in me was good. He went on to talk to me about other stuff on and off of the field."

How dynamic does Gulley think he is?

"Honestly I think that I can do a lot. I am more of a moving around type of back, you can punch me up the middle, and you can send me on reverses throw passes to me. I think I am a more versatile back. I think I can do more things than others. That is my take on myself as a running back."

In his talks with Drayton the name Brian Westbrook came up because of the size and ability of Gulley and the two talk about the Philadelphia Eagles running back.

"He told me all about him. He told me how Brian Westbrook was not getting any love and Villanova just happened to come. He did his thing and now look where he is."

Syracuse is high on Gulley's list at this time and the new running backs coach at Syracuse may have something to do with that.

"My interest in Syracuse is very high. Coach Drayton is a great person and we connected right away. I am looking for a good coach and he was perfect for me."

A visit has not been taken to Syracuse yet, but one is in the works for the coming months.

"I will probably visit them this summer to see the facilities and everything."

Other than Syracuse there are a few other programs looking at Gulley.

"I have offers from everybody in the MAC except for Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Buffalo. Kansas and Syracuse are the two other schools to offer me. Highly interest and on the verge of offering is Cincinnati, Michigan State, Marshall, and Wisconsin."

A decision is not going to be expected to come soon as the prospect knows that this is one of the biggest decisions he will ever have to make.

"I know that I am going to make my decision after my football season and probably towards signing day. It is going to take a long process because this is a big step in my life
