Tight end Welch up to 11 offers

In the 2009 recruiting class, NC State signed tight end Anthony Talbert from Winton Woods High in Cincinnati, Ohio. Now the Pack is back in the Queen City to try and land another one of the area's best tight ends, Alex Welch from Elder High in Cincinnati.

The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Welch caught 32 passes for 470 yards and four touchdowns as a junior, his first year starting after backing up Notre Dame tight end Kyle Rudolph as a sophomore. Welch earned second-team all-conference honors for his efforts last year.

Thus far, Welch has received 11 scholarship offers, including NC State. Wisconsin, Kansas, Purdue and Vanderbilt recently joined the Pack, Boston College, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Northwestern and Wake Forest in offering Welch. NC State has made a good early impression.
