Woods: We'll Be Big Time

Life is good in Winston-Salem right now. The Wake Forest football team has reeled off six straight wins, and is starting to reel off big-time recruiting victories as well. With all of the excitement surrounding the football season, it might be easy to push the Demon Deacon Basketball team to the back of your mind, but I'll give you three reasons not to: Al-Farouq Aminu, Ty Walker, and Tony Woods. The three 5-star commitments were on campus this past weekend to see the Wake-UNC game as well as the Black/Gold Scrimmage. Deacons Illustrated caught up with 6'10" Rome (GA) center Tony Woods to get his thoughts on the weekend.

Wake Forest, who has struggled over the past two seasons, had been having a tough time securing a number of 5-star targets including Greg Oden, Duke Crews, and Mike Conley. Then, all of a sudden the Demon Deacons burst back into the national recruiting spotlight in April, when they landed Ty Walker, a 7'1" center with great shot blocking skills. The trend continued into July when they landed the highest-ranked shooting guard in the country, Al-Farouq Aminu, and another 5-star center, Tony Woods. What was the reason for such a turnaround?
