One of the fastest rising prospects in the state of Ohio right now is Westerville South athlete Marcus Ball. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound prospect is the younger brother of Wisconsin offensive lineman Ray Ball and he has picked up seven verbal offers in the past few weeks and is hearing from nearly every program in the Midwest.

“I have Arizona State, Minnesota, Illinois, Kent State, Bowling Green, Toledo, and Northern Illinois,” he said. “I am really open to any school right now. I don’t specifically have a dream school.”

Going from zero to seven offers in a short period of time was exciting for Ball and has made him even hungrier to continue to build on that total.

“There’s nothing like the first (offer) because when Toledo called me and said they wanted to offer me, it just felt like I had finally made it,” he said. “After that, you’ve been going at it for so long and you feel like you deserve it so I’m trying to get greedy now and keep racking them up.”

Over the last several weeks, Ball has been out to four Big Ten programs, including Ohio State, and he took the time to comment on each trip.

“I’ve went to Wisconsin, Michigan State, Ohio State, and I went to Illinois just this past Saturday,” Ball said.

On Illinois - “It was great. They have great coaches and the coaches were telling me that if I come there that they are graduating like three seniors at safety and that I could get on the field early and play. I loved the trip, it’s a great city, it was a good trip. I got to see them practice and see them hit a little bit so it was good.”

On Michigan State " “Michigan State, they’re recruiting me real hard. I have a real good relationship with B.J. (Cunningham) and coach Mike Tressel is going to keep recruiting me real hard. I talked to former players and players that were on the team and it’s a good place. They showed us the facilities and I sat there and talked to coach Tressel and he wanted to know how bad I wanted to go to Wisconsin and I always tell the coaches that what is best for my brother isn’t always what is best for me so I am definitely open. I got to go to a hockey game and the junior day and chilled with the coaches and it was good.”

On Ohio State - “Coach Urban Meyer, he’s all about winning and I want to win so that’s always good. When I went there it was actually the first time that I had been there so I finally got to see the facilities and the weight room and stuff like that. They have a real good strength and conditioning coach (Mickey Marotti) and he was real intense. Michigan State was like that too, they were both real intense guys. (Marotti) was real enthusiastic and it was just pumping me up like I wanted to get in the weight room right now when he was talking.”

On Wisconsin " “Wisconsin is a great program. I know coach (Brett) Bielema, he’s been to my house because of my brother. When I went up there with my brother and everything it felt like home. Whenever I go up there I have a good time. Traevon Jackson played basketball with me so I went up there and had fun with them. It was nothing really new since I’ve went up there on trips with my brother so I’ve been there like five times. I talked to the coaches a little bit and they said that they have nine scholarships to give away so they’re going to keep recruiting me hard and hopefully I can get a scholarship from them soon.”

Next up for Ball is a pair of unofficial visits to two other outstanding Midwestern programs and he’s hoping it leads to at least one more offer.

“Pitt is on the verge of offering so I’m going to go up to Pitt,” he explained. “I have a good relationship with coach (Paul) Chryst obviously and coach (Joe) Rudolph since they came from Wisconsin. Talking to coach Rudolph, it sounds like they are close to offering me so I’m going to go up there this weekend and see how that goes. After Pitt, I’ll go to Notre Dame on the 24th so that will be a good trip as well.”
