Rene staying focused

Brooklyn (NY) Canarsie running back Steven Rene is not having the senior season that he had expected to have, but he continues to play hard. CuseConfidential.com recently spoke with Rene about his season and what he thinks of the Syracuse season.

"The season is going well. It is not as good as I expected it to be because we lost a lot of big seniors on the offensive line. The guys we have now are not as big, but they are athletic. They just have to start holding onto their blocks and worry about their assignments. Myself I am doing what I have to do and making sure I know my assignments and no matter what the record is I am still going to go strong."

As it stands right now his team has a losing record, but two more wins could turn things around in a big way.

"My team is actually 3-4 right now. We have two games left and these last two games are going to determine if we make the playoffs or not. We have to win these next two games it is a must if we do we are in the playoffs."

When it comes to his future team up in Syracuse Rene relies heavily on his recruiting Coach John Anselmo to fill him in on what is happening with the team. Even though the record is not where many of the recruits would like it Rene understands the situation.

"I talk to my coach all the time Coach Anselmo and he keeps me updates on what is going on up there," Rene said. "Every team is not perfect. Not every season is going to be a win win season sometimes you are going to have some wins and some loses. The way it is looking right now though, the team is good no doubts about that."

Rene does not get much time to watch the Orange at home so a trip to see a game has the prospect anxious to get in the Carrier Dome. That visit may happen sooner rather than later.

"I am going to try and make it to their game this week [against Akron]."

Since committing to Syracuse Rene has not talked with many of the other Orange commitments, but he has spoken with one.

"I have talked with Mario Tull. First we introduced ourselves because we had never met and then we talked about Syracuse, our seasons individually, how good it is to be going to Syracuse, and what made us pick Syracuse."
