Vanderbilt and Kentucky play Saturday in a game that could have bowl implications for each school. VandySports.com's Chris Leeasked Ben Jones at CatsIllustrated.com six big questions about the Wildcats as they prepare to travel to Nashville.
1. "It's season two of the Joker Phillips Era in Lexington. What's the prognosis so far, and are the fans pleased with the direction of the program?"
"The jury is still out. Joker didn't have much of a honeymoon when he started here because he had been the coach in waiting and the perception was that he was already set up for success. But he's turned over all but a few positions on the coaching staff and some fans are just now starting to realize that just because he was the coach in waiting didn't mean he got to sign off on every recruit.
"Earlier this year, there was a lot more hostility towards Joker. Athletics director Mitch Barnhart came out and publicly issued a vote of confidence at one point. It certainly hasn't been pretty. They lost to Florida, at LSU and at South Carolina by a combined margin of 137-20, the worst three-game stretch in the history of the program. And anytime you set new records for futility at Kentucky, it means something, because there have been some awful, awful years here.
