Stansbury prepares for North Carolina

Mississippi State and North Carolina have only met four times on the hardwood with the Tar Heels taking all four matchups with the last coming in 1964.

But none of those meetings have taken place at Humphrey Coliseum. In fact, North Carolina has never played at all in the Magnolia State. That will change Saturday when the two teams meet in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament at 11 a.m.

"Everybody knows they are the defending national champs," said MSU head coach Rick Stansbury. "There are not many times that you get a North Carolina to come into the Hump. It's the first time ever.

"You know that name has great tradition and that's fine. You know if you are playing against that name then that's one of the best programs in the history of college basketball."

But the Tar Heels have been far from their best this season. UNC is only 17-16 on the year and struggled to even get past William & Mary in their opening round game 80-72.
