Yes, its a long season & there will be peaks & valleys...but nothing wrong with enjoying a 3-1 start to the season. They've been a fun team to watch these first 4 games.

if im not mistaken, the team that scored first, won all 7 games. we had opportunities to put runs up early in each of the last 3 and never got a clutch hit. Lohse is gone, Berkman is most likely retiring. Furcal is expected to be back if his elbow doesn't require surgery. Beltran is under contract for another yr. J Garcia's situation is up in the air depending on whether or not he needs surgery. Have read where M Carpenter is going to spend the off season trying to learn to play 2nd base. his bat would be a plus, Don't really see this team making any moves in the off season other than trying to get another lefty for the bullpen. Expect Carp, Waino to be better after an off season of conditioning. Carp was never really past spring training mode. and I thought Wainwright's velocity was way down on his fast ball pre tommy john surgery. hopefully he can regain some arm strength. Curious to see if Shelby Miller can work his way in to the rotation and to see if the young kid in the minors Taveras that I have heard them rave about is ready next yr or still another yr away. I know the outfield is set currently.

Lynn back to the bullpen hopefully.
Would like to see a move made for a solid middle infielder.
Adams probably going to see some action next year.

Agree...love the arms our minor league has developed. As for Carp, it could be that his career is winding down, but one has to attribute his lack of dominance, at least in part, to lack of strength & stamina as he returned from surgery. So, we'll just have to see how those questions are answered in spring training. No matter, I love that guy! What a great Cardinal!!
StL-PD is saying that MCarpenter is going to work at 2nd this offseason. I hope he is successful. I agree that we need to develop or acquire, a middle infielder. I have no problem with a Kozma/Furcal at short OR a Descalso at 2nd...but just don't think we can have both. We need someone who is more of a threat offensively at one of those spots. Other than that, I only expect Freese, Craig & Jay to get better.
Tavares, Wong & others hopefully getting closer to becoming Cards
So, the future looks bright...A WS Championship in '11....backed up by a 7 game NLCS in '12....looking forward to seeing what '13 brings!
Can't wait for pitchers & catchers to report!

I'm still not sold on Matheny honestly. Still say we should have got a proven winner like Terry Francona but we went the cheap ass route. Matheny did impress me at times this year so I suppose I shall see if he can improve some of his boneheaded decision making from this post-season. He is not the reason we blew this series though, that is all on the starting pitching and our lack of hitting.
Anyone think the Giants win a game against Detroit? I just don't see it. Seeing them get swept will be bittersweet for me but oh well...GO CARDS!

Disappointed with the lack of offensive production, or should I say clutch hitting, the last few games. Would have loved to repeat as NL Chapms. However, this team has greatly exceeded my expectations coming into the season. Rookie manager, new pitching coach, Carp out most of the year, Pujols gone, Berkman out, Furcal out, Westbrook out, Garcia out for the NLCS....Overall, a great season, and great experience for our younger players. The Cardinals have a bright future and I'm really looking forward to next year.

SF turned into a runaway train in Game 5. Got every timely hit, made every defensive play, even several web gems, and pitched magnificently. Sometimes you just gotta tip your hat.

feels like 96. just getting destroyed the last 3 games. nothing going their way. giants are making every critical play. everytime we had runners in scoring position in either of the first 2 innings the last 3 games to have a chance to take an early lead to put the pressure on them, we came up hitless. on the other hand, they have got every big hit. great year, no complaints here.

Honestly would not surprise me to see SF win these next two and advance. Have no idea what to expect.
Thought Matheny managed horribly Friday night. We all saw Lynn blow up in the 4th, second time through the order on Sunday. So, why in the hell did Matheny not have someone warming up after those first two smash hits in the 4th last night? Couldn't even get a damn mound visit from Lilly. It was 3-0 before Kelly started to warm. That's inexcusable in a clinching game.
Also, why not bunt with Lynn in the bottom of the 2nd? Lynn was a DP waiting to happen against Zito.
Two terrible decisions by the skipper IMO.

Looks like Mark McGwire may be heading to the Dodgers as their hitting coach. If so, I wish him well, but look forward to Matheny continuing to put his stamp on the team & bring in who he wants. The results were pretty good while he was here, but it seemed, at least in the postseason, we became very impatient & more free swingers. I wish him success in LA, if in fact he goes, but ready for the next chapter in Cards history.

Molina's defensive numbers were far superior to Posey's, however. He threw out 47.9 percent of runners attempting to steal, allowing just 38 stolen bases. There were 87 stolen bases off Posey, who threw out 30.4 percent of base-stealers.
Posey is considered the front-runner for National League Most Valuable Player but lots of people think Molina is equally deserving, maybe more.

uh oh.....found another on the SAME SEARCH.....this was just a little panel of Sports Illustrated judges....bunch a nobodies.....in fact, assist, its probably that espn, cbssportsline, mlb.com, sports illustrated....they just don't realize what an expert you are....maybe you should regale them with your expert analysis from last season...you remember...how those Cardinal trades were terrible & the Cards would never go anywhere.....how the Cards farm system has NOONE anybody wants....i think if these guys knew what an expert they were dealing with, they would immediately rescind these articles....

Ultimately, I think that a vote cast for Molina or Posey is a smart one. The big question for voters is how they will weigh the three big aspects of a player's performance (offense, defense and intangibles). If they are all weighted equally, then Molina will get the votes. However, most are aware that MVP voters will likely weigh offensive production above all else. If that is the case, then Posey will get the votes.

Except ... two catchers have had extraordinary seasons themselves this summer, at the most important position on the field. And based especially on his defensive metrics, I'm still not sure I'm doing the right thing by slotting Molina second instead of first.

I don’t have any problem with anyone deciding that they prefer Braun, McCutchen, or Posey for the MVP. They’re all great candidates. Let’s just not ignore the fact that we essentially have a modern day Johnny Bench this year, and Yadier Molina is a pretty great candidate himself.

p.s.... you're an idiot....the first 3, Posey, McCutcheon & Braun are his top 3 while the others are also outside candidates. Thus their mention in the article. And, yes, I believe he is an MVP candidate.

im not an espn insider, but a quick google search found this one. the headline says it all as well as the part of the article shown...
Proud of Yadi, who is one of 5 finalists for the NL MVP.
Of course there is a Pirates fan, who is a really good speller by the way, and a Reds fan who think its "absurd," that Im "out of my __ mind, and other things, for even mentioning him and MVP in the same sentence. Im sure the Baseball writers are not really up to speed yet on the expertise of these 2 goofballs.
Anywho.....no matter where he finishes, 1st or 5th, this Cards fan is proud of the best catcher in baseball.

Get your facts straight, we said you were ridiculous for saying he would win it. And he wont. Never said anything about not being top 5, I said WINNING IT. If youd like, Ill post the link. And NOBODY remembers who finished 4th or 5th in the MVP votingj outside the city of St. Louis. Its not like one day someone is going to tell their grandkids, "yeah boy, I wish you could have seen Yadi play. He finished 5th one year in the MVP voting!!!!!"
Again, Ill say for the 10th time, I was talking about him winning it, which you had him winning it when giving out the awards. Want to put $100 on it he doesnt win it??? Ill give you 2-1 odds.
