Yes, its a long season & there will be peaks & valleys...but nothing wrong with enjoying a 3-1 start to the season. They've been a fun team to watch these first 4 games.

Let's go Cards!!
4/9 11:29 AM | IP: Logged And the Reds fans are already cackling. I just smile and tell myself Homer Bailey is on the mound for them tonight. Good time for stat padding.

I actually get to attend opening day this year. I can't wait!

Posted on 4/9 9:12 PM | IP: Logged

Opening Day in St. Louis is a neat experience. Basically a holiday up there. I've been lucky enough to go to 3-4 home openers.

Awesome. I am jealous, especially with it being the opening day following a WS title, should be special.
Ive been fortunate enough to attend lots of Cards games, regular season & playoffs, over the years. But Ive never been to an opening day.
Have a great time & cheer the Cards on to a win!

Well despite the MLB screwing the defending champs over with a 7 game road trip to start the season, including 2 rivals, off to a solid 4-1 start.

So far not missing Pujols at all, Cardinals front office is smart, there is a reason we let him go and I think we see why over the next 5-7 years.

Posted on 4/9 10:35 PM | IP: Logged

Very nice 4-1 start. Just hope Carpenter gets over his neck/back woes soon.

I agree about the 7 game road stretch to start the year for the defending champs. Oh well, you have to play 81 away games anyway.....on the positive side, we will only have 74 left to go after Wednesday....3dSmile

I know I should dislike the cubs fans more but I just can't with all these Reds fans around...I guess its a product of living in Lexington, but I just get annoyed by people expecting central KY to follow the reds. We're a different state, and certainly not fans of Ohio...

Cincinnati is an hour and a half away. St. Louis and Chicago are six hours away. Kind of makes sense that people in Lexington would be following Cincinnati.

Proximity is only one factor, I dont think it makes Lexington territory of Cincy. I guess it just annoys me when people presume we're all reds fans or bengals fans.

I think there's more of a cultural gap between Cincy and Lexington than people think. I follow the Cards b/c of family ties but I would pull for any of the Atlanta teams or other non-Tennessee southern teams before I'd resort to being an Ohio fan...

Posted on 4/10 1:12 PM | IP: Logged

Lexington is definitely a Reds market. Hence why we get all of their games on tv. And culturally Cincinnati is pretty different from the rest of Ohio.

True enough, but I dont have to like it.

Freese warning for the greater Cincinnati area tonight.

5-1. 2morrow we sweep the Reds. The Reds might be dead early on if they do not get with it. laugh

Posted on 4/10 9:48 PM | IP: Logged

Personally I don't have a problem giving Carp as much time as he needs. Baseball season is looooong, and I'd like to have a fresh Carpenter for the stretch run.

I agree. I'm surprised we did not sign Oswalt though just a bit but I'm sure we have our reasons.

No sweep. WAY too early to consider anyone dead.

Seriously, it's a loooooooooooog season.

5-2...all on the road...no Carpenter. Very promising start. Ive seen enough to believe the Cards are the team to beat in the division.

Ready to see the 1st homestand!

Let's go Cards!!

Took 2 of 3 from the Cubs. Reds come to town next, let's try to take another series.

Punished the Reds tonite. 11-1. Time for Waino to be Waino tomorrow and put the Reds 6 down in April!

Posted on 4/18 11:22 PM | IP: Logged

This division appears to be a runaway for the Cardinals if we could just get Wainwright to get his head out of his ass for the rest of the season.

I was amazed so many people did not pick us to either win the division or the wildcard at least. People act like Pujols and Larussa were our whole team...laughable.

Posted on 4/19 7:36 AM | IP: Logged

Talking about the Cards running away with the division. On April 19th. That's laughable.

Yep, just as laughable as the "dynasty" talk that was bantered about around here in late 2010.

Well looks like there is a major hiccup for the Cardinals to run away with the division - Lance Berkman tore his ACL last night - out for the season. Womp, Womp, Wooomppp. As a Reds fan, THAT IS ALL.

classy post

by the way, just curious, but where have you been for the past year or so, or even since, oh, October?
Or do you just come out of the woodwork when someone gets injured, or the Cards have some problems?

And just like that .5 back a month later. And our schedule is much easier in June than it was earlier

Except for our forced rivalry with the Indians. It's great being forced to play them six times, especially when they're good. rolleyes

* I'm not trying to hate on your Cardinals bud. I'm just a life-long Reds fan and this helps the Reds chances for the division this season. I had nothing to do with his injury - season-ending injuries happen all the time. Heck - Joey Votto or Bruce or Phillips could suffer one - I hope not but you never know. I've always liked Lance Berkman - I pitched against him in college when he played for Rice. Hopefully he bounces back for next season.

by the way, "bud"... are you sure it's a torn ACL? Because his doctors are apparently not.

That's what Dan Patrick reported yesterday morning on his show - torn ACL - likely out for year. Usually Dan Patrick is a great source. I'm glad he maybe didn't tear the ACL - I like Berkman as a player. He'll still be out for 2 months though. BTW- Cards lead now 1/2 game. Bud.

3rex...If you're going to ridicule the Reds, then Reds fans can attack back regardless of the circumstances. Perhaps your Cards aren't as good as you think?
5/22 11:13 PM | IP: Logged
It doesn't matter to me whether they are "as good as I think" or not. Im still a Cards fan. We finish in last, Im a Cards fan. We win it all, like we have 10 times before, Im a Cards fan.

Complete game by Wainright. Had to be a great feeling coming off major surgery.

Let's go Cards!!

Reds are playing really well and beating some good teams of late. As a cards fan they definitely got my attention.
5/23 6:57 AM | IP: Logged
We've been giving it to the Braves so far in this series. Our pitching has looked spectacular and we have arguably the best bullpen in the majors.

Aroldis Chapman is simply UN-HITTABLE! That is all.

LOL @ runaway season for the cards. They had something like a run differential of +50 higher than we did and they've managed to turn that into a half game lead.
5/23 1:24 PM | IP: Logged
Its deja vu all over again....Reds fans talking trash on a Cardinals thread in May...just like last season....
of course, we know how that turned out :)

That's one way to look at it i guess...

Another would be that we have been without the services of our ace, Chris Carpenter, for the entire season. Our 1A ace, Adam Wainright is still working his way back from major surgery. Players on the DL already include Carlos Beltran, Lance Berkman, John Jay, Skip Schumaker, Allen Craig...all starters....
And yet, one quarter of the way into the season, we are still not only hanging around the race, but we are in 1st place!!!!

Let's go Cards!!

Congrats on second place!

So how long do you think we'll hold first before we give it back to you then?
5/25 10:42 AM | IP: Logged
No idea. Cards have spent the first quarter of the season there. I had no illusions that they would be there wire to wire, especially with all their injuries. Frankly, Im surprised noone made a move until now.
I just get a kick out of Reds fans sometimes...Cards spend the first 44 games in 1st place and hours after they fall out by a half game, we get the "not anymore" post.
All part of the journey of 162 i guess.
5/25 12:26 PM | IP: Logged
It really is funny. Kind of like how you posted "but we're in first!" and hours later it wasn't true. Cards fans are funny sometimes. Like how they predict in April that it'll be a runaway season.

Are you really going to get pissy because a Reds fan said, "not anymore?" I mean, it's not like a Reds fan got all up in your mug and asked you how their arse tasted.

"We're still in first! Nyah nyah nyah-nyah nyah"

"Not any more"

"Look at them Reds fans bragging about being in first place!"

Gain some perspective, dude.
