October 2, 2013Within four-and-a-half fours, Kentucky fans camping out for Big Blue Madness tickets had set an all-time record.
By 9:30 a.m. Wednesday 650 tents had been set up around Memorial Coliseum, according to Kentucky, beating last year's final record count of 595.
As of the same time last year, 200 fewer tents had been set up. The record last year was set on Friday afternoon.
It fell much earlier this year. It also started much earlier.
About 30 campers were lined up across from Memorial Coliseum by 9 a.m. -- a full 19 hours before they could officially begin staking a claim to spots in the ticket distribution line.
Kentucky campers have set a record five years straight, starting in 2009 with 420 tents. That was upped to 525 in 2010, 570 in 2011 and 595 in 2012.
Tickets for Big Blue Madness will be distributed on Saturday beginning at 7 a.m. at the Memorial Coliseum ticket windows on Euclid Avenue. They'll also be available online at www.ukathletics.com and www.ticketmaster.com.
Madness is set for Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
