July 10, 2012Kentucky doesn't yet know the Southeastern Conference portion of its basketball schedule, but the rest was released on Tuesday.
The nonconference slate will feature a strong Atlantic Coast Conference flavor, but not many appetizing home court options.
The defending NCAA champion Wildcats will open their season with back-to-back games against ACC opponents and will face two 2012 NCAA Tournament teams at home in Long Island University and Baylor.
UK opens the season facing Maryland at the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Nov. 9, and Duke at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta on Nov. 13.
Both are event games, Maryland as part of the Barclays Center Classic, which also will feature games at Rupp Arena, and Duke as part of the Champions Classic doubleheader, which also will feature Michigan State playing Kansas.
UK will open its regular-season home schedule with three games that also are a part of the Barclays Center Classic, against Lafayette (Pa.) on Nov. 16, Morehead State on Nov. 21 and Long Island on Nov. 23.
Kentucky's first true road game will come Nov. 29 at Notre Dame in the SEC/Big East Challenge.
The Cats follow that trip with five straight home games against Baylor (Dec. 1), Samford (Dec. 4), Portland (Dec. 8), Lipscomb (Dec. 15) and Marshall (Dec. 22).
UK will close out 2012 at Louisville on Dec. 29 and will wrap up the nonconference schedule on Jan. 2 at home against Eastern Michigan. SEC play will begin Jan. 8-10.
The Wildcats will ring in the season with Big Blue Madness on Oct. 12 and the Blue-White Scrimmage on Oct. 24, both at Rupp Arena. Kentucky will host two exhibition games at Rupp, against Northwood on Nov. 1 and Transylvania on Nov. 5.
