Three-star CB waiting on Miami offer
PAISLEY, Fla. - Among the group of players at the recent FBU Top Gun attempting to prove that they were better than their current ranking, Ricardo Allen out of Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland was one player that may have actually lived up to his talk.
The three-star cornerback was named the second best defensive back of the week by the Rivals.com analysts in attendance and the strong impression left on the Paisley, Fla. spectators was exactly what Allen was gunning for.
"I'm trying to get better," Allen said while at the camp. "I'm trying to get ranked higher and to prove that I should be ranked higher than 27th (at cornerback)."
Allen's feet and technique separated him from the other cornerbacks at the Top Gun camp and he was one of the few defenders that was able to stay stride for stride with the speedy wide receivers.
Currently, Allen lists numerous scholarship offers from around the country. However, Allen's favorite is a school that has yet to extend him an opportunity.
"I have offers from South Carolina, Wake Forest, Michigan, Purdue, there's a bunch of them," he said. "I went to Miami and my coaches told me that they'd offer but when I was looking at a blog or something it said that they think I'm too short or Mr. Randy Shannon thinks I'm too short but I want that [offer] bad."
With Miami as his clear favorite, Allen hopes to earn an offer with a strong senior season. Regarding the scholarships that he does have in hand, he hopes to take in all the information he has this fall to make a decision when the time comes.
"I'm going to take my visits and stuff and see what recruiting classes are coming in and what coaches leave and stay," he said.
At 5-foot-9, 170 pounds, Allen doesn't have ideal height but he does have confidence in his abilities and has confidence that those abilities will shine through on the field.
"I bring technique," he said. "I've got the technique. I'm not the biggest person in the world but I know what separates."
