Five-star Sidney enrolling in July
Five-star power forward Renardo Sidney has been counting down the days until he can enroll at Mississippi State.
The 6-foot-10, 250-pound McDonalds All-American will only have 16 days in-between graduating from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles and moving back to his native Mississippi for college. Sidney will graduate on June 19 and will take his first class in Starkville on July 6.
But Sidney is not the only one with that date circled on their calendar. It appears that his future teammates are also looking forward to his arrival.
"All of the guys call and check on me," Sidney said. "They can't wait until I get down there."
One of those players who checks in regularly is two-time SEC Defensive Player of the Year Jarvis Varnado, who pulled his name out of the NBA Draft to return to MSU. Sidney stated that the possibility of playing in the low post with the nation's leading shot blocker for the past two seasons is one of the main reasons that attracted him to State.
"That was one of the reasons I went just to know that he is there," Sidney said. "I know that I will have another person that will help me rebound and block shots. We are going to be a hell of a frontcourt. I can't wait to see what all happens."
Sidney was not the only low post presence that head coach Rick Stansbury brought in the 2009 signing class. Four-star center John Riek and three-star power forward Wendell Lewis will also man the middle for the Bulldogs.
