Patterson reflects on Harangody challenge
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - One of the most fascinating storylines from Tuesday's NIT quarterfinals matchup between Kentucky and Notre Dame will be the battle of the big men - UK's Patrick Patterson versus Irish All-American Luke Harangody.
"I know that it's going to be an extremely hard matchup for me," Patterson says, "because he's a strong, powerful type guy who is also able to shoot the ball. He's got the total package."
Harangody promises to be the most unique challenge in Patterson's two collegiate seasons. The 6-foot-8, 255-pound big man averaged 25 points and 13 rebounds this year making him the first player in Big East history to lead the conference in scoring in back-to-back seasons. He averaged 23 points per game last year in being named Big East Player of the Year as a sophomore. If not enough, he also shoots a respectable 34 percent from three-point range.
