Fresno State wins third straight

FSBulldogs.com The Fresno State men's basketball team is starting to show signs of life as they won their third straight game 84-69 against North Dakota State(7-4) Saturday night at the Save Mart Center. The lone senior on the team Ned Golubovic led the Bulldogs with hif first career double-double scoring 16 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Fresno State started off strong led by freshman Kevin Olekaibe who had 12 first half points. As a team Fresno State shot 54 percent in the first half including 55 percent from behind the arc that helped them jump out to a 48-38 lead at the half.
The second half the Bison started to make their comeback. After being down by double digits all game North Dakot State finnally pulled to within three with 8:07 left when Freddy Coleman hit a three pointer to make the score 63-60 Fresno State. After two free throws by the Bison that pulled them to within one 63-62, Fresno State responded with two free throws by Bracken Funk and a jump shot by Jonathan Wills gave the Bulldogs a 67-62 lead.
Northa Dakota State would then make a a run of their own scoring seven straight points and taking a 69-67 lead with 5:43 remaining in the game. From there however it was all Bulldogs.
Fresno State went on a 15 to 0 run to end the game led by Golubovic and Funk who scored 13 of the final 15 points for the Bulldogs to give Fresno State the win.
"We had effort and execution down the stretch," said head coach Steve Cleveland. "Ned and Bracken were a big part of the win. Their effort and attitudes give me absolute trust that they can get the job done. We were down in the second half in all three of these wins and found a way to win. We are getting better every day."
With the win the Bulldogs improved to 4-5 on the season and have now won three games in a row. Fresno State had four players in double figures. Golubovic 16 poits, Bracken Funk 14 points and 10 rebounds, Tim Steed had 14 points and Kevin Olekaibe ended the game with 12 points.
Fresno State returns to the court Tuesday night as they play host to the Pacific Tigers.
